(S/N 117368)

Returning to the Commando he was promoted to A/Major and 2-i/c by Lt-Col. Derek Mills-Roberts on 10th March 1943 to be effective from 26th February 1943 - the "Battle of Steamroller Farm".

He was wounded in his face by a German stick grenade whilst attempting to storm an enemy pillbox in Normandy on 6th June 1944 .  After only five weeks of recuperating from his injuries he returned to uptake his Adjutant duties, however, since being injured his replacement Tony Lewis had been promoted to CO of No.6 Commando.  Therefore, on his return he became the CO of No.6 Commando.  After several blackouts during the push through France , he was again returned to England for further recuperation and Tony Lewis again took over command of No.6 Commando.

He was later promoted to Lt-Colonel.
