Lt. Charles “Bill” Courtney-Coade, formerly of the Staffs Regiment, was serving as Troop Sub-Altern with No.6 Troop of No.6 Commando from at least 7th June 1941, and is noted as being a Captain from, at least, 8th August 1941. On 23rd December 1942 Maj. Coade was reported as being hospitalised from back injuries sustained having fallen down a railway embankment at Sedjenane. Returning to the Commando he was promoted to A/Major and 2-i/c by Lt-Col. Derek Mills-Roberts on 10th March 1943 to be effective from 26th February 1943 - the "Battle of Steamroller Farm". He was wounded in his face by a German stick grenade whilst attempting to storm an enemy pillbox inHe was later promoted to Lt-Colonel. |
